Hi... I want to enable session state on my IIS 5.0 servers - has anybody
tried this by doing using the below article, if so did you come across any
major issues and does it work well?

Thanks!

This page details what is to be done:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=312906

This key can be used (also in attached machineKey.txt file):

<machineKey

validationKey="1C060F3715D25159CB72D5081731225DC621467DA0E9FB6A6F12232B09CDA
E8354E1D5BEA5B9665833D867895729581026A9A9AC95505A4C14917956C7075BA2"

            decryptionKey="1A4EB90E247C65C1F41E17F2DBA94A796BAB338FF950E854"

            validation="SHA1"

/>

Or a new one can be generated from the attached HashConfigCs.exe.  Run it
with the command: hashconfigcs.exe 24 64

The machine.config file is found here:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\CONFIG

Open the machine.config file, find the <system.web> section and replace the
<machineKey> section with the above key.
Restart all IIS on the servers in the webfarm.

This should enable the ViewState and SessionState (for StateServer mode in
web.config).

Hi,

you'd also want to check settings in <sessionState> element in web.config
(same state server IP etc). Basically you need tyo have same set of machine
keys and have the same stateserver process serving all the servers.

And check your machine's clock.

I tends to support ignoring posts from future. :P

Only in this way, some people can be educated to set their clock to correct
time when posting.

Maybe you would like to consider yourself a normal person and not smarter
than anyone else.
What you do is total disrespect.

And any newsgroup moderaters here to delete this thread?

Lau Lei,

These groups are unmoderated, although they are sifted to
remove posts containing malware, viruses and SPAM.

Isolated instances of personal abuse are ignored.

If the behavior occurs repeatedly, somone contacts the poster and requests
that the abusive behavior be stopped but, in all honesty, there's not much that
can be done because these are anonymous newsgroups.

It would be extremely easy for anyone to simply change
the online alias, and repost again ad infinitum.

Mostly, we reply on peer-to-peer *unofficial* moderation, where everybody
reminds each other what the spirit of the public newsgroups really consists of :

We are here to help each other solve our programming problems.

Occasionally, as happens in most public newsgroups,
someone thinks that flaming someone else is the way to go.

Ignoring those posts usually works much better than responding to them.
After all, we do have better things to do, don't we ?

Well, yes and no.

I recall an incident with me where an individual was being particularly
abusive and posting pornographic material about me on the newsgroups. After
that went on for a while, and the individual refused to stop, I looked up
his connection info, eventually figured out the ISP and from there, his
place of work. I emailed the human resources dept. HR asked for proof, I
provided the details and links to the messages. After verification from
their IT dept., they confirmed that the lude messages were posted during
work hours using company property violating company policy relating to
pornographic content. The individual was subsequently disciplined and the
abuse stopped immediately.

That is certainly not an isolated example. Tempers can flare online, and I
certainly have been involved in a few myself, but it doesn't absolve the
individual from culpability. Another case in point is here:
